F.C. Barcelona Vs. Real Sociedad
On Saturday Barça played against La Real at the Camp Nou. It was a complicated game for the Catalan team lead by captain Lionel Messi; however, 2 goals scored by defenders, Clement Lenglet and Jordi Alba, helped the team win and get closer to La Liga title. Before this game Barcelona needed three wins to claim the title and this win gave them a couple of options in their favor. Barcelona plays against Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday and if they win and Atletico de Madrid losses against Valencia on Wednesday, Barcelona will win the league in the middle of the week. The other option is if Atletico still wins Barcelona will need to win against Levante this coming Saturday. The best option for the team is to win the league throughout the week rather than the weekend because of the difficult game against Liverpool F.C. a week from Wednesday. The smart thing to do is to rest the majority of starters before playing the English club.
Goals
1-0
Clement Lenglet scored the first goal of the game a minute before the first half ended, 44’, making it his first goal with the team in La Liga competition. Dembélé crossed the ball from a corner kick beautifully heading towards the penalty spot. Lenglet drags two defenders from La Real towards his position and still manages to strike the ball with his head precisely. The goalkeeper had no chance to save his team when the ball was placed in the far post.
1-1
The second goal of the game was scored by La Real Sociedad. The goal was scored in the 62nd minute and has been one of the best goals scored against Barcelona with a through ball. The pass was executed with such precision that the Barcelona defenders were caught off guard. Juanmi was alone against Ter Stegen and with a flick netted the ball in the goal. Many criticized Ter Stegen for not doing more to save the goal but he had no chance against such flick and position of Juanmi.
2-1
The winning goal of the match was scored by Jordi Alba two minutes after the opposition scored. It was a collective play by Messi and Alba leading towards the goal leaving defenders behind and approaching the goal like a predator towards its prey. Alba was dribbling the ball with his left and with a quick movement changed to his right outside of the box. With a powerful kick the ball goes into the far right post leaving the goalie in the ground. This was a golazo by Jordi Alba and gave the ultimate win to Barcelona with a score of 2-1.
Man of the Match
Clement Lenglet received the award of Man of the Match thanks to his goal at the end of the first half which opened up the victory for the Catalans. The frenchman is having a phenomenal season as a defender and has proven at a young age, 23, he is the successor of Umititi’s position in the team. Lenglet is a signing that will last for a long time in the club if he continues with his efforts of defending the goal and scoring with his head.
